越来越多只能用more and more...表达？这篇告诉你！

在英语表达中，我们经常需要用:越来越多的人如何如何来说明某种趋势。很多同学第一反应则是more and more... 这个表达是正确的，不过确实是大部分同学都会想到的，这里举一个我的学生的实例:

可以看到，这位同学在造句过程中，两个连续的句子都用到了more and more。首先这个词本身没有任何问题，用在此处表达的意义也是正确的，但是如果通篇都是more and more，就会暴露你的词汇量很贫乏了。

所以今天我将介绍几种不同的表达，希望可以丰富大家的语料库，更好地表达越来越...

★ a growing number of sb / sth

★ an increasing number of sb/ sth

这个词组可以完美替换more and more，表示「越来越多的...」，大家重点记忆。我们来看几个例子：

1. But an increasing number of new-build homes, particularly apartments within urban areas, seem to now come with air-conditioning as standard.

但是，现在越来越多的新建住宅，尤其是城市地区的公寓内，似乎都以安装空调作为标准。

2. Facing the pressure from the stressful work and life, an increasing number of people prefer to get close to nature for relaxation.

面对紧张的工作和生活带来的压力，越来越多的人喜欢到大自然中放松自己。

3 . One key factor behind the stunning performance of recent decades has been an increasing number of people working in industry and services.

最近几十年经济繁荣发展的背后其主要因素是从事于工业与服务业的人口逐年增多。

4. In a growing number of people questioned in the online gaming has grown into a contemporary form of new industries and entertainment.

在人们越来越多的质疑中，网络游戏已经成长为一种当代新兴产业和娱乐形式。

如果不想说「越来越多人」，而想表达「越来越怎么样」等等其他意思，我们可以用下面两种表达方式来替换more and more：

★ increasingly+形容词原形

副词 increasingly 本身是「越来越多地，不断增加地」的意思，加形容词原形，可以表示「越来越...」。

e.g. Bentley has decided to ask for a transfer after growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of first team chances at Highbury.

由于对在阿森纳缺少一线队的的机会而越来越感到沮丧，本特利决定提交转会申请。

e.g. Today, people's living standards continued to improve, the quality of life of the requirements of increasingly high.

如今人们生活水平不断提高，对生活品质的要求也越来越高。

e.g. The country Obama inherits, the report warns, will no longer be able to 'call the shots' alone in an increasingly multipolar world.

报告警告，在这个日益多元化的世界里，奥巴马从这个国家继承的将不再是“发号施令”的单边霸权。

increasingly 也可以修饰动词，我们来看几个例句：

e.g. Chinese students studying in the U. S. are also increasingly moving back to their native country upon graduation, she said.

沃尔夫说，在美学习的中国学生毕业后也有越来越多的人选择回到中国工作。

e.g. The sea is increasingly used as a rubbish bin, filled with poisons, plastics and other pollutants. Parts of it are infested with pirates.

海洋逐渐变成垃圾箱，用来倾倒毒物、塑料和其他污染物，有的海域受海盗侵扰。

★ ever+adj.ever+形容词比较级

表示「越来越...的」，可以替换 more and more。

e.g. But the latest rush is driven by ever-higher expectations of the amounts of money Chinese parents will pay to educate their children.

但是推动最新一轮上市热潮的因素在于，人们对中国父母为孩子支付的教育资金的预期日益高涨。

e.g. For some developers, however, the business model is unsustainable: raising funds at ever higher rates to acquire ever more expensive land.

然而，对于一些开发商来说，这种商业模式难以为继：以越来越高的利息筹集资金，去购买越来越贵的土地。

e.g. But spending money at the new complexes is a status symbol for many affluent urbanites, who are willing to pay ever-higher ticket prices.

但对于很多富足的城市人来说，在新建的电影院里花钱看电影是一种社会地位的象征，他们愿意支付日益升高的票价。

e.g. In the us, a number of carriers have gone bust while others are struggling to survive in an ever more competitive market place.

在美国，不少航空公司已经破产，剩下的在竞争更加激烈的市场环境中为了生存苦苦挣扎。

★ in growing / increasing numbers

这个词也表示「越来越多」，常置于句尾，作状语。

e.g. These days, people in growing numbers are beginning to complain that work is more stressful and less leisurely than in past.

当初，越来越多的人们开端埋怨工作比以前更有压力。

e.g. Nowadays, people in growing numbers are beginning to complain that work is more stressful and less leisurely than in the past.

现在，越来越多的人在抱怨现在工作压力比过去更大并且少休闲。

e.g. Now people in growing numbers are enjoying the benefits at dinner table from the application of the new scientific advances to agriculture.

现在越来越多的人们享受餐桌上的益处，这是来自（得益于）农业先进的科学技术的应用。
